Here is the most up to date "plan"! Any questions? Please post them on Teams or bring them to our next Zoom Meeting. Thanks for sticking with this ever developing process. You are amazing! :)
Please read as soon as you are able (changes from this morning's document in blue highlight) - link removed, please see March 29th post for the most current information. IA's will now be completed by April 3rd. Thanks for working with me and getting this completed quickly so that you can get your Diploma!
Check your TOK period's Microsoft Teams page and your e-mail for more helpful files/details that can not be posted on a public website! Hi all!
Hope you are doing well and staying healthy - as that is the most important thing, right now! The noon deadline if you were opting for additional feedback is just a few minutes away. Again, this was optional and just for additional feedback (more than what you would normally get in the process). So if you are turning one in - great. But if not - no worries. I have gotten some questions about turning it in later. You can do that, and you will still get feedback - but it will be limited to final approval of your main knowledge question. Finally, I posted the working main KQs for each class on Teams (that I have thus far, I have groups in each class who have not finished the Google Form yet) - take a look to make sure as you are planning that you don't change your main KQ and inadvertently make it too similar to another group's. IB will not allow that to happen, if these IAs move forward. Take care and remember to post your general questions to Teams! Have you read the March 20th Update post yet? If not, please read that first... Then if you are opting to move forward with planning your IA on this break, read on...
One piece many groups still need to work on is refining, improving main and additional KQs. This is only one element of the presentation, so I don't want to get too hung up on it, but it is an important piece. Thus, consider the following: 1. I know we have talked about them in class quite a bit, but I thought maybe giving another TOK teacher's perspective might help. In thinking a bit deeper about KQs - consider this thoughtful response about questioning and KQs. 2. Additionally, your main KQ can have a "lens" that helps to focus your presentation and make it easier to cover in the allotted time. However, remember a lens is an addition to the KQ; the question should be able to exist and still be a KQ if you remove the lens.
Since there will be less face to face time it might be in your best interest to go back and check out the IB provided exemplars and the 2018 & 2019 examiners feedback about the TOK IA Presentations. These have already been posted on this site, but putting back up at the top for easier access. However, I caution you from randomly searching the "interwebs" for advice on the IA, I have done that over the past couple of days to see what is out there and some of it directly contradicts what IB has said and what I have been taught in training. If you are wondering, post the question in Teams and I can address it for all. OK! How are doing? I hope you are all safe and healthy! I have gotten a wee bit of clarification and have planned accordingly! Here is how students who would like to continue to work on the IA Presentation can proceed for the next week... or until we have more definitive information from IB! (Link removed, please see March 29th post for the most current information.) Please read though it carefully and decide what next steps you would like to take! If you decide to move forward in planning your IA during this break you will need to do the following: 1. Sign-up for a Zoom account to attend the Q & A sessions on March 24th and 27th 2. Make sure you can access the Microsoft Teams account for your TOK Period - use you school user name and password on Office 365 via the district; or here is a link to the district instructions on how to get this set up on your personal device Cheers!
Hello all! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy - both physically and emotionally.
I will be updating you by Monday on next steps for the IA Presentations... but in the meantime, here is a meaningful activity to start that I created with Ms. Morales (another SHS LA teacher) & then modified for TOK! Become the Primary Source! WHAT: WRITE one or more personal journal entries per week while we are on this "break". WHY: On any given day we are living history, but it just so happens that we are now living through a globally historic event: COVID-19 pandemic 2020. Become the primary source that high-schoolers will eagerly cite and Netflix will want to buy. Your unique first-hand perspective offers:

OK - new and revised directions for your TOK-IA Presentations...
The District has asked that we just take a break until they have a clear plan for how we will be moving forward. So, don't worry just yet about revising your TOK-IA Presentations for a few days or doing anything else related to it. In fact, feel free to ignore my previous post until further notice. I will post again soon with more information... until then, take care of yourselves and those close to you. I hope this finds you as well as can be expected, all things considered. Really… I hope you are taking some time to enjoy that your schedule is more open than normal, even amidst all the uncertainty that that openness brings.
Here are some potential movies to watch with some “TOK type” thinking. Who knows, maybe they could even get you thinking of some great IA Presentation ideas! (Note, this list should look familiar, it is the same one I sent at the end of last year!) I have no great answers with how the IA Presentations will proceed for TOK. So at this point, I am just keeping the general ball rolling in case we end up needing to do the process remotely/online. Thus… In an effort to finalize IA Planners-main RLS/KQs, First – if you have NOT gotten your Proposal/Planner approved, you need to do so with me ASAP (and then follow the steps below). Second – If you HAVE gotten your Proposal/Planner approved, I have one more step for you; I would normally do this in class, but I am asking each group to confirm their main RLS/KQs in a Google Survey (just one per group). Please fill out this survey by Monday morning. IB does not allow overlap of topics, so while I read your proposals and write main RLS/KQs down, this survey is my triple check! But again, please fill this out ONLY if you have had your IA Proposal & Planner been approved by me - either via signature stamp on the hard-copy OR via e-mail. Thank you in advance for your continued diligence and understanding. Please reach out with any questions, comments, concerns. I am not sure I will have answers, but I will try. We are all doing the best we can and we will work through this together!
