Here is a link to help get you thinking about experiment ideas! :)
We discussed Locke vs. Plato and then talked about how the senses lead to truth. The remainder of class was to complete the following: Research, plan, & conduct an experiment that explores ‘how trustworthy are your senses?’
If you were absent, please write out answers to the following questions on your own in Journal #4: 1. Briefly describe what a school run by Locke would look like given his ideas on knowledge.; 2. How do Locke’s ideas compare to Plato’s? Put them in a Venn diagram.; 3. Which do you place more value in? Why?. Next, complete the testing your senses experiment descried above on your own. Important Dates October 1st or 2nd: Sense Experiment complete Today we talked about moral codes. If you were absent, please find two-three articles from reputable sources of reasonable length on the impeachment and read/take notes on them. Then in your journal: 1. either print out the articles to include or fully cite them in Journal #4; 2. include reactive reading notes; and 3. write a reflection on the articles. Reflect on the different ways of knowing brought up in the articles. How are they used to come to conclusions? Is there any discussion of morals that connects to what we have been learning? Other connections to TOK learning?
Locke and the process of impeachment… any connections? That was what we explored today in Journal #4. We will continue the exploration tomorrow. If absent, please read and take notes on this New York Times article. Then answer the questions below in Journal #4. Additionally in Journal #4, please read and take notes on Textbook pages 80-86. After reading, please connect the textbook information to the Locke and How the Impeachment Process Works readings in your journal entry (this is to make up for the missed discussion pieces we did in class today).

Important Dates 9/26: Completed Locke reading-marked up with comments, connections and questions We explored knowledge concepts (KC) and questions (KQ) that will be central to the IB assessment pieces in this course. If you were absent, please make sure you have completed the “Understanding Knowledge Issues” have assignment and understand KCs & KQs.
We debriefed some of the information in Chapter 1, then did an introduction to knowledge issues (concepts) and questions by working on an IB created assignment called “Understanding Knowledge Issues” . If you were absent, please read and complete the assignment on your own (including filling in the last column on the last page – even though there is a big arrow in the way). Please have this completed by Monday to be prepared for class discussion. Periods 2 & 6-turn in Ch 1 SS when you return to class.

Today we did a perspective activity. The rest of the time was spent reading the rest of Chapter 1 in the textbook (pgs. 13-27) and completing a “synthesis sheet”. Please have that ready to possibly turn in at the beginning of class on Thursday. If you were absent, please read and complete the sheet on your own. Important Dates 9/19: A visit from Mr. Wilder & completed Chapter 1 Synthesis Sheet We finished Plato and brought up connections to the Lang/Lit short story about Omelas. Maners brought up knowledge questions raised in the discussion and we reflected on them at the end of class. If you were absent, please record a classmate’s discussion notes and see Maners about the reflection questions you need to complete in your journal.
Important Dates 9/19: A visit from Mr. Wilder-come with Diploma related questions for him We finished Plato and worked out what we was saying the in allegory of The Cave. Tonight, think about: 1.) do agree with any of Plato’s ideas? 2.) why or why not? 3.) why we did we do this reading? If you were absent, please record a classmate’s discussion notes and read & write reactions on this excerpt from a different work by Plato to help better understand the allegory of The Cave (– maybe?). Additionally, answer the questions above.
